Reiki vs. Massage: What You Should Know
If you have too much stress in your daily life, your body becomes the “reservoir” for the worry and strain you feel. This “overload” of anxiety can create pain anywhere in your body, from headaches to backaches.
Touch therapy presents a natural way to reduce pain caused by stress. Two forms of this therapy are: 1) massage, the manipulation of muscle tissue to help relax your body and mind and 2) reiki, which engages and amplifies the deepest energy in the body to help relax your body/mind and provide a personal sense of well-being.
Below is a more detailed comparison of massage and Reiki.
Techniques
Massage
- Uses skilled touch to manipulate muscle tissue.
- Method and pressure on different areas may change.
- A sheet covers the client; treatment area is uncovered.
Reiki
- Uses skilled touch to engage energy within client’s body.
- Light touch is consistent during Reiki.
- Client remains clothed.

Final Thoughts
My Suggestion
While massage therapy is common, fewer people have experienced Reiki. If you fall into this category, I recommend that you try a Reiki session with me. It may be just the help you need to reduce the stress-related pain you are experiencing.
